How is the incidence of steroids consumption among gym-goers or bodybuilders pushing the fitness industry into darkness?

Overview

Nowadays, people have become conscious about their personalities. They just want to show the best version of themselves in front of people through social media. This urge of showing their picture-ready avatar comes with a bitter truth. This urge has even influenced the fitness industry.  Presently people are just desperate to have a hulk-type body with pumping veins. To achieve such a goal, people and even late teenagers are hitting the gym and performing exercises day and night.

But at the same time, they are blinded by the obsessions and only want to look their best in the shortest possible time. And due to this shift in behaviour and perception, people are using steroids  (performance-enhancing drugs) for gaining some muscles and improving their stamina.

Steroids and their use - the survey & facts

Around 3.3% of the global population is tagged as steroids users. And the shocking news is the fact that experts always warn about the side effects related to such drugs. Moreover, athletes using such things are banned from their athletic careers due to such malpractices. For instance, Lance Armstrong, a french athlete was banned due to the consumption of steroids during the performance. Many youngsters have faced serious health complications due to the intake of excessive steroids.

After seeing such examples, people still haven’t stopped using these harmful drugs. The Pavlov First Saint Petersburg  State Medical  University surveyed this scene. Their survey included around 550 men who were regular gym-goers. Around 30.4% of them were using steroids which is a high ratio.  Also, 70% of this group already knew the consequences of using steroids. It proved that even knowledge was not able to stop them from using such things and harming their body in the long run. The negative effects of steroids can hit the brain, fertility, skin, and even internal organs, but people prefer to take such a huge risk on their health by injecting steroids into their bodies

According to another research, it is found that around 54% of male bodybuilders and 10% of female bodybuilders are using steroids on a regular basis. And the top names among these steroids are Dianabol, Deca Durabolin, Anavar, Testosterone, Androl 50, Winstrol, etc. This investigation further revealed that on average, bodybuilders consume around 4 types of steroids in a year.

Consequences of steroids consumption

The health complications can vary as per the condition and includes side effects like:

  • Indigestion
  • Sudden change in appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Mood swings
  • Increased risk of various infections like measles
  • An increase in blood sugar levels which can later lead to diabetes
  • Weakening bones and leading to serious orthopaedic problems like osteoporosis
  • Eye problems like cataracts, glaucoma, etc.
  • Mental problems like depression due to constant mood swings and insomnia

Conclusion

Though steroids can help athletes in gaining muscles and improving their performance in short term, at the same time, these drugs can affect their health and career. Many people have lost their lives due to steroids abuse. There is an urgent need to spread awareness and help athletes in preventing themselves from chronic health issues. GSB fit is taking constant steps to spread this message and educate trainers and athletes about the working mechanism of such performance-enhancing drugs so that they can make wise decisions in their professional lives.
